Bloxham Tapes are proud to present the label’s 13th release, Clay Tablets, Hoarded Creatures by KELLY JAYNE JONES, a multi-disciplinary artist combining performance art, installation, sound and music. Influenced by musique concrète, she works with improvisation, graphic scores, instructions, actions and movement as integral facets of her recorded works.

Kelly was half of Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides, is currently half of White Death and has also collaborated with the likes of Jon Collin and Matana Roberts. After seeing her in collaboration with the latter in Peckham last year, Bloxham Tapes approached Kelly to invite her to contribute to the canon. We are delighted that she accepted and this sophisticated sonic landscape, mapped over two sides of ferric tape, is the result.

Consider this release a mutant strain of environmental psychedelia, best played on repeat. A transportive and immersive experience on headphones, under Kelly’s deft guidance elemental sounds collide; nature seeps and creaks and cracks and swirls; and the familiar and unfamiliar fuse. Scribes’ quills scratch. Pronouncements are made. Tectonic plates shift. Bells toll for thee.

Somewhere, out there in the inkiness of forever, a lonely Voyager probe awaits discovery, the now-sentient recordings from a long-dead planet aching to chatter. Listen and respond.
