about

Bloxham Tapes BT19

The nineteenth release on Bloxham Tapes compiles soundtracks by Antwerp-based artist LYDIA DEBEER.

‘How To Scale A Mountain’ takes its title from a quote by writer Renée Daumal, author of one of Lydia’s favourite books, ‘Mount Analogue’: “If I couldn’t scale the mountains, I would sing of them from below.”

‘Landwash’ was originally made for Music for Car Parks – a contest to compose a piece to be played in all of Europe’s Interparking car parks. “I based my piece on the movements that take place at the landwash; the place between the sea and the beach,” Lydia explains. “Most of the sounds you hear are made with the (prepared) harp.”

‘(…) Hunt The Hunter While He Hunts’ was the heart of an artist edition (15 copies only) that consisted of a 10-inch record and multiple-image poster. Elegant layers of field recordings, re-recordings, stick-struck harp, synths and saxophone.

‘Carpark’ is the soundtrack to one of Lydia’s earliest videos, featuring dancer Eliane Roumie. “For the soundtrack, I combined field recordings, foley sounds, synth sounds, flute and melodica.”

Music for car parks. Music For Landwash. Lydia Debeer: taking Mount analogue (by strategy).
