about

Bloxham Tapes BT16

The sixteenth release on Bloxham Tapes is Trembling Flower / Unsettled Ghosts by DTB and ITTA.

DTB is the acronym for David Thomas Broughton, a man who needs little introduction. His live performances – mini symphonies for loop pedals and heartbreaking earworms – are legendary. His association with Bloxham Tapes predates Bloxham Tapes. He is the subject of a documentary film. His wanderlust took him to Korea. He is the outsider artist's outsider artist.

ITTA is one half of third-eye Kosmische psych-drone duo Tengger. She is a musician with a innate ability to balance beautiful melody with experimental verve; a spiritual traveller through music's many plains as well as real-world environments.

Trembling Flower / Unsettled Ghosts is DTB + ITTA's first collaboration; an exploration of the dual perspectives of a transient visitor to Korea and the experiences of a native. Subtle accompaniment comes from fellow collaborators / artists Hyeji E on cello, and Keyming on electric guitar.

A fast-forward though the ferrous landscape of Trembling Flower / Unsettled Ghosts: DTB and ITTA evoke subdued anger and frustration across a single-take recording, immersing themselves in the conflicted appreciation of nature and our human interaction with it.

The project started as a lyric exchange. These words became a similar exchange of ideas. DTB provided a part in his native tongue, to which ITTA responded in Korean, which in turn is responded to in English… clamber the Escher staircase carved through this sonic bedrock.

The journey is buoyed by DTB's lilting acoustic guitar and propelled by ITTA's driving harmonium and bounced off a springboard of effects. But consider this a different audio perspective for both artists, a new horizon stretching forward into myriad aural possibilities.

Welcome to the maiden voyage.
