about

Bloxham Tapes BT37

Presenting the label's 37th release, 'Detritus' by BENSIN, an artist and musician hailing from Naarm (Melbourne), Australia.

Detritus: assembled.

"A collection of cycles; shit synths; pretty good synths; the 'exorcism' of Miki Maus; a toilet-turned-shelter in a blizzard on the summit of Kunanyi; an approximation of Willow's Song; diagnostic recordings of a bucket-wheel-reclaimer and other detritus recorded 2016-22," Bensin explains.

Detritus: reassembled.

"Detritus is a compilation of ideas ... all odd-ones-out that seemed to tell some other story than whatever I was working on at each particular time. In 2023, I went back over old works and found there was some thread between these, and when put together they felt like they were of the same piece, even though they emerged sporadically within a turbulent seven-year timespan without any specific intent. They were all made in moments where the magnification of a sound source tethered me to a simple idea, ruminating with it over and over."

Detritus: investigated.

"Rather than being produced with a theme in mind, these works emerged through my own investigation of them, ballooning and morphing as I poked around. In retrospect, this thread seems pretty clear to have been a kind of id to my processes over these years."

Detritus: a Bloxham Tapes compact cassette coralling all psychic energy.

Psychic energy soundscapes by Bensin

Short chordal movement is an approximation of the track Willow's Song from The Wicker Man.
